Most of what Shopify SEO apps do is work you can do once, by hand, and never pay for again: titles, descriptions, image alt text, redirects. A few do earn a subscription. Here is how to tell which you need.
We earn a commission if you sign up through the links on this page. We pay for every tool we test and no brand sees a draft before it goes live. How this site makes money.

Ratings, review counts and prices read from the Shopify App Store on 24 September 2026, sorted by review count — a 5.0 from forty merchants is not a 4.9 from four thousand. These are the store’s figures, not our test results: we have not yet run these apps side by side on our development store. Buttons appear only where we have a link, and never change the order.
What an app can and cannot do
- It can fill in missing meta titles and alt text in bulk, compress images, add structured data and flag broken links. Useful on a large catalogue; overkill on twenty products.
- It cannot write content people want to read, earn links from other sites, or fix a store with thin, duplicated product descriptions. Those are where rankings come from.
If your catalogue is small, start with a free option and fix the basics by hand. Pay for an app when the catalogue is too large to maintain manually.

Questions we get asked
Do I need an SEO app on Shopify?
Not to start. Shopify handles the technical basics; an app helps once the catalogue is too large to manage titles and images by hand.
What is the best Shopify SEO app?
On review volume, Booster SEO and Avada lead. On price, SEOLab is free and Tapita starts at $9.99. Pick by catalogue size, not by feature list.
