Shopify Page Builders

A page builder lets you design landing pages, product pages and home pages by dragging blocks around, without touching theme code. The good ones are genuinely useful. All of them share one catch that is worth understanding before you build your whole store in one.

We earn a commission if you sign up through the links on this page. We pay for every tool we test and no brand sees a draft before it goes live. How this site makes money.

Do you need one at all?

Probably not to start. Every modern Shopify theme — including the 24 free ones Shopify makes — is built from sections you can add, remove and reorder in the theme editor. That covers a home page, collection pages and most product pages. A page builder earns its fee when you need pages the theme cannot express: campaign landing pages, long sales pages, or layouts you want to test against each other.

Ratings, review counts and prices read from the Shopify App Store on 24 September 2026, sorted by review count — a 5.0 from forty merchants is not a 4.9 from four thousand. These are the store’s figures, not our test results: we have not yet run these apps side by side on our development store. Buttons appear only where we have a link, and never change the order.

The catch: lock-in

Pages built in a page builder are rendered by that app. Uninstall it and those pages stop working; change theme and they usually need rebuilding or republishing. Your products, orders and customers are unaffected — but the pages themselves live inside the app. Build your core store in the theme, and use a page builder for the pages that genuinely need it.

PageFly

The largest review base of any page builder in the store, a free plan, and the lowest first paid tier of the three leaders.

What works

  • Free plan available
  • Largest review base in the category, at 4.9
  • First paid tier at $24 a month

What will annoy you

  • Top tier is $299 a month
  • Pages built in any page builder do not move with you if you uninstall it

GemPages

Rated the same as PageFly, on a smaller base. Slightly dearer to start, noticeably cheaper at the top.

What works

  • Free plan available
  • 4.9 across more than four thousand reviews
  • Top tier $100 cheaper than PageFly's

What will annoy you

  • First paid tier $5 dearer than PageFly's
  • Same lock-in as every page builder

EComposer

The same rating as the two leaders, the cheapest top tier, and both a free plan and a trial.

What works

  • Free plan and a free trial
  • Top tier at $129, the lowest of the leaders
  • 4.9 on nearly 3,500 reviews

What will annoy you

  • Smaller review base than PageFly or GemPages

If price is what decides it

LayoutHub is the cheapest at every tier and rated 5.0 on more than 1,300 reviews. Shogun sits at the other end — the highest entry and top prices here, aimed at larger teams.

Questions we get asked

What is the best page builder for Shopify?

On the store’s own data, PageFly and GemPages lead — same rating, PageFly on more reviews. EComposer matches them on rating for less money at the top.

Do page builders slow a store down?

Any app that adds code to a page can. We have not measured these yet; when we do, the figures will appear here alongside the store data.
